This week began with the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada, which I made extra long by using a wee bit of vacation time. I needed it for the renovation, but also for some relaxation before things get busier at work.
Here are some renovation update photos. The first is the finished sanding and mudding stage:

The next photo is of the first coat of paint:

A couple of things about this first coat. You may notice there are darker areas where the mud was. This is normal. It’s a different material from the previously painted wall. The paint colour is Tropics by Behr, for anyone who wants it for themselves.
Secondly, my ADHD struck me at some point. Despite planning time for painting, I never bought the paint supplies for the job. I made do with what I had on hand, but it was not my ideal painting state. By that I mean, I painted the wall with a mini roller meant for stain. As such, Tuesday morning had me heading to Canadian tire for those supplies and some shin guards.
On Tuesday, I got coat two done:

It needs at least a third or fourth coat to be complete, but it looks better than the first did. Both photos were taken as I finished, so the paint is wet and hasn’t cured.
After that was the lengthy time called clean-up, which takes as much or more time than the painting did. It’s my least favourite part and I don’t love renovating, so that says something. Painting starts giving the room character though, so I guess I like it a bit. Really, if my sink was installed, clean up would be easier.
I woke on Wednesday with a somewhat silly idea. What if I went to tap then on Sunday I did two other classes to finish up my drop in hours in time, so I could take a break from it and focus on the kitchen? Perhaps I would even wait to start that back up until the fall when I should definitely have my kitchen done and softball would be ending. It felt like a bit too much to do this week, especially given the amount of clean laundry I didn’t have, but I would do the Sunday classes and then tap the following Wednesday instead.
On Wednesday, I went shopping for the glues for the tile backsplash and river rock flooring. I also popped into HomeSense for a look at things though I didn’t see much that excited me. Perhaps I wasn’t in the right frame of mind or it’s the wrong time of year inventory wise for my taste.
Thursday was Game 2 of the PWHL playoff finals. I stayed home to watch it and just enjoy myself as I was a bit run down and had things to do before Friday’s first softball game.
In the earlier parts of Friday, I was anxious. I was worried how softball would go. Most of the team is new to me except for 3 players. I worried I’d suck and let the team down. Then I remembered that softball is often a mental game. Also, it was only the first game. I started to calm myself down and just breathe. We won by three points. There were many hugs after at the bar with all the people I hadn’t seen in awhile.
On Saturday, friends and I got together to watch Game 3 of the PWHL finals. Now, it started at 5PM in our time zone. Normally, they go about 2.5 hours max. Well, this one went to a third over time round. During the regular season, over time is usually an extra period, followed by a shootout, followed by an extra period, so on and so forth until someone wins. During playoffs, there are no shootouts. It’s all extra periods of hockey and so exhausting for both teams. In the end, Ottawa lost, unfortunately. But the saves Phillips made during the game were ridiculous. She’s a rookie and is on track to win an award this year.
By Sunday, I was still sore from softball. I have muscles by my ribs? News to me. I intended to go to the dance school for a flexibility and mobility class, but they cancelled the class. That may have been because of race weekend being on and road closures across the city for it and construction. We’ll have different road closures this coming week for the royal visit. These things seem neat, but they disrupt a lot for regular people just trying to get around the city to do errands and such. I get that it’s important for the royals to come hang out with our new Prime Minister though. We need to continue to foster good relations with countries that don’t suck for trade and other reasons.
I waited to go out until I needed to pick up my order at M&M Meats. I discovered they have a decent list of gluten free meals all certified for Celiac folks. This is extra good right now with my kitchen the way it is. Having easy meals will let me get it done and not starve in the process. Yay!
I don’t know where I put The Tapestry of Time down, but I’m quite annoyed about it. Reading is stalled as I don’t really want to start another book.
