2025 – Week 26

Monday was a painful day. Eye exam day. It always feels a bit like torture. I’m light sensitive for several hours after. A good thing was learning that I should have progressives instead of bifocals because of the computer work I do. The difference is that progressives have a view in-between the far and near that is best for screens. Between work and writing, it’s important. I had been noticing that words seemed to be changing in size sometimes and it’s because of the lack of the middle view. It has made reading e-books unenjoyable, so I’m glad to know this now. He recommended just far-sighted for softball. I may just keep my old glasses for that. The fun will be finding glasses for my small head that I like and that are good for progressives.

I had a kitchen win on Monday. Since I had to wait to drive home, I checked the dollar store and I found bamboo spice racks that I could tell were narrower than average. I had resolved to need to build my own because all of the options on-line were too wide. The dollar store ones fit!

I also found the spice jars I wanted for half the price at the dollar store. They’re cute mini Mason jars. They’re even brand name Mason jars! I just need to find my labeler to transfer my spices into jars that actually function.

It’s about time I had a win here. The wood I was going to use for the spice rack area may actually be close to what is needed for my floor patch as well. I just want to be done and have a sink again.

Tuesday was annoying. Belt tests come with a small fee to cover the cost of the certificate and belt. I couldn’t turn left to go to the main bank branch, so I tried to go to the other one. Well, it’s gone, which is fine but they took all the ABMs out of the smaller mall. And Shoppers didn’t have enough cash for cashback. Frustrated between the work day, everything being extra challenging for some reason, and the heat wave, I had a brief meltdown before I got to the other branch and was able to get money. Thankfully, the heat was dying down by the evening. It’s been too hot for too long here. Yes, the temperature seems low, but the humidity makes it far above what most people can handle. A friend had clients from Texas who had difficulty tolerating it because they’re used to high temperatures that are dry.

After we did some self-defense practice I was presented with my new belt and got a picture.

I made it home in time to catch most of the PWHL 2025 Entry Draft. Teams got at least 6 players though some got more because of trades that happened during the night.

I handled my glasses situation with some annoyance on Wednesday. The constant attempts to upsell me stuff like Blue Light Filtering bug me. Dude, computer systems have that built in these days. Also trying to lie to me about the size of glasses needed for progressives. The pair I chose is well above the minimum and other places told me they could do smaller. I don’t think I’ll buy from them again in the future. The guy also couldn’t figure out the basics of putting my insurance information in. I’m looking forward to my new pair, but if I do decide to get a second pair for sports that are distance only, I’ll go elsewhere because I’m not going through that BS again.

I also finally got my tire change done and pulled them out of storage. I don’t like Kal Tire. I originally signed with another company then Kal bought them. I’d rather go to Canadian Tire, which is far closer and slightly less expensive. They are so much lighter without the rims that it may be worth it not having them. It’s easy to move them in and out of my car now.

Recently, I was given a gift card for Home Depot and that allowed me to order the stainless steel panel to live behind my stove. I may need to order a couple more of my backsplash tiles later in order to fully complete the kitchen, but I’m looking forward to my “vision” coming together. I have vision in quotes because as someone with Aphantasia, I don’t have much of a mind’s eye. Visualization exercises really annoy me. The most I get is a brief flash of something, but it’s not vivid. It’s like it’s so far away that I can’t possibly see details, but I have a secure sense that I know what the thing is. For some reason, Aphantasia is more common in individuals who are neuro-divergent.

The week finally ended and it was onto the long weekend. I took the Monday off, so I could extend it for the renovation and relaxation. Saturday brought errands including groceries. It was another hot day, so I just relaxed for a bit once I got home. I ended up needing a nap. Later, I watched Abigail in the evening and quite enjoyed it. It’s labeled as horror comedy, but it’s kind of light on the comedy side.

I got up early on Sunday to do laundry and work on my kitchen renovation. I did a second coat of concrobium to be sure on Saturday. Cleaning and priming happened on Sunday. There will be a bit more primer on the area that was rotten because wood will be added. I wanted a layer of the special mold/stain blocking primer in there for extra protection. I will also prime the spots I fill with the cement-based pre-mixed filler I got. That will be on Monday.

Then it was off to the prep night for game night where we finish making our characters. Since my friends live closer to the LRT station and because I took Monday off, I decided I would take transit and have some drinks for once.

What a packed week. No wonder I was tired by the end!
