This week began with cutting wood to fit into the last spot on the floor.

Next up was priming it with Bin2 like the rest. I retrieved my paintbrush from the baggy in the freezer because that is about the only perk of working with this stinky stuff.

Then it was figuring out breakfast while I awaited the 2 hour cure time to finish.
Bad news though. The patching on the chipped spots and the slight levelling will need about a week of cure time. It will be back to painting for a bit while that is going on. I can also get the plumbing pieces needed and order my cabinets. I just don’t want to have the cabinets sitting around while I don’t have the sink in place because I have no where to put them at this point. I can also do a dry fit of the flooring, but I want to do that closer to install. I’m really glad I chose river rock because I won’t have to try and figure out where whole tiles are versus part tiles to have it look good. I can start on the sink side of the kitchen and if it is slightly off on the stove side, it will be hidden. Plus, I like the look of the river rock.
I feel so close yet so far right now. I know I just have to keep doing the thing until it’s done.
Canada Day was spent with friends chatting and eating barbecue. Transit was a mess to get home after. It’s ridiculous that the LRT is still so unreliable and the city can’t understand how it makes people opt to do anything but pay for the poor service. I usually have an OK time with it. It was more than double the usual time to get home. I’ll need to figure out a different plan next year if I hope to get home before midnight. The city entirely forgot about the people who live in the east end in any capacity for a while before they realized they should have some buses going downtown and to the east. What is my tax money going to?
Anyway, I was eager to get to the end of work the next day, so I could do the last of the floor levelling in the kitchen. I took the night off after that because I was still tired from the day before. Since I finished the rewatch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I switched to a rewatch of Angel. My cabinets were on order and I was excited about that.
Priorities shifted some on Thursday as I needed to clean up and make room in my bedroom temporarily for my car tires. I also wanted to get started on a workout area for the future. I had my work cut out for me as it has been a bit of a dumping ground during this renovation since I’ve had nowhere else to put anything.
In the gluten free world, Annie’s Mac and Cheese is terrible. The noodles don’t cook and the sauce has very little flavour. Someone on Reddit called it sadness and disappointment and I agree. It’s better to just buy a gluten free pasta and make a cheese sauce with real cheese. It’s probably healthier too. This was Thursday’s attempted lunch and I’m just done with them. I’d rather eat whole foods as much as possible anyway. Amy’s does really tasty microwave ones that I just need to reduce the time on to have the noodles cooked to my liking.
I survived Friday’s meetings and headed off to softball. We lost by one in the 7th inning. I made a beauty of a catch, but the ball was just seconds too late.
Saturday was massively productive. The list of things I completed:
- Reorganized items in my bedroom.
- Gathered items for donation.
- Put my tires in storage.
- Took the garbage out.
- Dropped off the donation items.
- Picked up the stainless steel backsplash for behind my oven.
- Picked up my new glasses.
- Shopped at Sunrise.
- Got poutine.
- Watched a movie.
- Had a nap.
- Did groceries.
- Completed the second front panel of a knitted vest.
Nine of the thirteen items were done before noon. I watched Dune part 1 while I munched on poutine. I needed a nap later on in the day.
This week on the renovation, I had to add some cement the thickness of one tile to bring the floor up to the same level all around.

I also wanted to do the sanding, but I couldn’t find my drill, which has the battery pack needed for the palm sander. There was no way I would hand sand cement! I love that the same battery pack works on all my power tools, but it’s a pain when it gets misplaced. I am considering getting a second battery pack, but I don’t really want to spend on it. Luckily, I found the drill under the cart my microwave is on. It was hiding underneath my printer. I wasn’t looking forward to the sanding, but I decided to work on that in week 28.
I also needed to make space because my cabinets were due to arrive on Monday from IKEA. That’s what I focused on before heading to game night. Game night was a bit challenging for me as I was a dumbass and forgot my character sheet at home. Luckily, we had used an online tool and the GM found me in the cookies on the browser. Phew! I took pictures and referred to my phone throughout the evening. There is so much to learn about my new character and this campaign. It’s exciting. We saved a giant crab called Lady Shimmersnip from some leaches and dealt with a pugwampie. I threw a small sword into his head. Good times!

My rogue is a sassy dwarf with Nephilim heritage. Our GM is so good at painting these minis! They are seriously tiny figures. We used Hero Forge to design ourselves. Oh, and I have a tail I can hurt things with too!
