2026 – Week 2

It has been tough doing things mostly with one arm. Things like putting clothing on, getting out of bed, or carrying items like laptops without pain. I’m awaiting a date for an ultrasound. I suspect I will need to go ultra early in the morning to get in line for the x-rays.

I did manage to get my cookbooks out of my bedroom though it took a couple of days to get everything in place for that. Everything is slow, but at least moving forward.

After work on Monday, I was able to get some of the destruction done on the stove side of the kitchen. What I left was very solid; it needed my circular saw to cut out. The rest came out quite easily with a hammer and chisel plus a crowbar. I was able to hold the chisel with my bad side. It wasn’t easy getting the pieces into one of the dumpsters, but I got it done. Thankfully, there wasn’t a lot to relocate from inside this cupboard, so that didn’t make my living situation too much worse.

Later in the week, I was able to get the destruction done. It turns out that I’m pretty good with my dominant side these days. Actually, I think the pain killers and muscle relaxants are helping that side too. We’ve been fighting with it for months. By we, I mean my massage therapist and I. Some of my muscles are super stubborn and they like to get hard like rocks. I think the muscle relaxants are loosening them up. Finally. I hope it lasts. If not, I suppose I’ll have to talk to the doctor and see what we can do. Anyway, I also found another old can!

This one has some gunk in it, so I need to figure out how to clean it, but I like the charm of these old steel cans.

Totally spent after and with no hockey to watch, I showered, put on comfy clothes, made dinner, and watched The Rookie. The next season was out and I still had a couple of days on my Crave subscription. Unfortunately, it was only one episode.

I decided repair would begin on the weekend. I would take it easy as I didn’t like the idea of being up on a ladder with a hurt shoulder. With the cabinet gone, I felt hopeful that this project will come to an end someday soon. I couldn’t actually see that far into the future though. I still had days where I had to remind myself that the fridge lives in the kitchen now.

Friday’s hockey game brought another win for the Ottawa Charge. That was the 5th game in a row.

Though I had lots of time available on Saturday, I didn’t get much done because my right side was getting sore and tired from having to do everything. I did go pick up some needed items from the hardware store in advance of the impending snow storm. The last storm we had, I was ill prepared for. I was much better prepared for this one at least on the food front. Though it didn’t really matter as something made me nauseated. I suspect it was the meds as it only began while taking them.

On Sunday, I read a bunch of Ward of the Faeries by Terry Brooks. It sounds so beautiful. I tried to install the map for a Minecraft world based on it, but it didn’t work. A friend and I managed to load the map. It was pretty cool though I felt it was missing things like the Ard Rhys’ chambers and the basement the scribe lives in. I’ll just have to finish the books, so I can watch the TV show!

Later, I patched some areas in the kitchen and got somewhat prepared for painting, but didn’t have the energy to get to painting after cleaning as much as I could reach with TSP.

Also on Sunday, the Ottawa Charge continued their win streak. That brought them to 6 wins. The team who once struggled in overtime has been winning in overtime.

Weekends never seem long enough.

Catch you on the flip side,

Rae
