Monday was a palindrome day (62226) on the 26th week of 2026. I suppose this fact is more fun if you actually enjoy numbers. For me, it was also Condo AGM day. That took nearly two hours, but I was able to make some decent progress on a scarf I’m working on. I started one recently, then had to restart it because seed stitch can be like that. I’ve wanted a scarf I actually like, so I’m making one.

Seed stitch can be tricky, but it lays flat and doesn’t roll on the edges. I also fit it a more interesting pattern than stockinette or garter.

I’m often torn come Tuesday on going to martial arts or continuing to work on my condo tasks, but this Tuesday, I noticed that my mid-section is getting looser, so I think the changes I’ve been making recently are starting to make a difference in my weight loss goals. I say weight loss, but it’s not so much the number that I care about. I just want to be fitter and healthier.

This week, I practised from home. Better for my gas budget and for the environment.

I still haven’t found the proper power adapter for my electronic keyboard, but I did find my universal one. It didn’t work. I think there is something wrong with it as the power light would flicker, which suggests a short to me. Hopefully, I find my real one as I clean and reorganize my living space more.

This week flew by. I did a lot of work in my bedroom. I love looking at my main wall now.

Friday was another palindrome day (62626). Pretty neat.

On Saturday, I went to see Supergirl in 4DX. I loved it. I read reviews after and some of the gripes are valid, but some sound reminiscent of dude bros who hated on Barbie, Wonder Woman, and pretty much most other action or superhero films that are more targeted towards a female audience. Many parts had me giggling. I’ve read that little girls are asking for Supergirl comics because of this film, so it’s clearly done some things right for the target audience. Yes, I think some action scenes could have been forgone to improve the story elements. Spoilers ahead (highlight to read).

Gripes about Lobo (aka, The Foil character) are a bit silly to me. I think some longer moments between him and Kara would have better solidified that he actually did have a purpose. This was an area the writing was weak in. Is there some validity to Mad Max comparisons? Perhaps, but it’s such a brief part of the entire film and is no one ever allowed to have desert scenes with any kind of machinery again? There was colour in many scenes, so I think that’s ridiculous. One is not going to tell a gritty story and have there be sunshine and rainbows all over. Argo was close to death, so of course some of the set expressed that. The people there were barely surviving. And some of the background being neutral made the suit pop once she accepts her destiny to help others and decides to actually wear it. Prior to that, she’s a reluctant hero who would rather be drowning herself in a bottle to deal with the heavy stuff she has been through. On Kara’s trauma, not everyone expresses it the same way. This version of Kara handled things rather like Jessica Jones early on in the film. By the end, she has grown. Is she over all the crap she has gone through? Not at all. But she is taking a step to try to stop running from it. About the connection or lack of between her and Ruthye, Ruthye is a very judgemental child who sees a broken young woman and she’s too young to understand fully the kind of trauma Kara has been through. She hasn’t even fully processed her own loss. She’s angry, but she can’t act as Foil because she can’t comprehend how taking a life will damage her permanently. Lobo wants to just give the child what she wants, but Kara knows that’s not actually in her best interest. I’m really wondering if people were thinking they should be acting like besties. They’re very different people. If there is one plot point that is silly to me, it’s that they didn’t take the girl or kill her when they massacred her family. Really odd considering they wanted child brides.

In my opinion, this Supergirl is vastly better than the 1984 film. Maybe they didn’t completely knock it out of the park like the Dark Knight films, but I think it’s a decent start to her legacy. I hope they strengthen some things for the next films including having music that matches some scenes better. So, to summarize, yes some of the points against it have validity, but they are exaggerated to me. And yes, it was quite close to being a really good film.

Also on Saturday, I began a side project to hopefully improve my storage. I have crates that I am attaching to one another to make a small storage tower rather than having them all over the place.

On Sunday morning, I got my oil changed. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that particular lube shop. They kept trying to sell me other services and convince me extra things were needed like spark plugs because of time, not because they actually had anything wrong with them. They also think oil needs to be changed every 3 months. It’s actually 6-12 months depending on mileage and oil type. Synthetic lasts longer. Anyway, this daughter of a mechanic refuses to be hosed by car shops. I plan to get a Carfax report done to verify what services my car actually needs rather than taking them at their word. I wish these predatory people would become extinct. It’s a terrible way to do business and keep customers. It was also vastly more expensive than I’ve ever had on any oil change in my lifetime. Never again.

Sword swinging went well. I am remembering more every day. Sometimes it’s really hard to do the standing versions because a kata makes much less sense as the scenario changes. I’m glad to be back.
