This week began with a visit to my doctor. He diagnosed an external ear infection and prescribed me some antibiotic ear drops. I’ve had a large number of inner ear infections over my lifetime. Usually at least once per year; often more than one. With those, I get pain and hypersensitive hearing. With this one, I’ve had no pain, but had difficulty hearing. It felt like there was cotton in my ear. My balance was affected and that kept me away from my usual activities. I hoped it wouldn’t be long before I could hear properly again and get back to martial arts and other plans. Until then, I supposed it would be self-care with relaxation and healthy eating.
On Tuesday, I spent a lot of time reading and some time on the kitchen. I felt like balance was the key. Relaxing because it was vacation time for me, but trying to get through the kitchen renovation. I wasn’t quite feeling well enough to grout that bit of flooring, but I did the prep work for it. I gave the top of the stones a wash to get the manufacturing dust off of them. After lunch, I sealed them before watching some Orange is the New Black. I’m slowly working through a rewatch of the series and just finished Season 2.
I was looking forward to the new update for Dreamlight Valley on Wednesday. We were finally getting Wreck-It-Ralph. The storyline for him sounded fun as it involved a malfunctioning video game machine. We were also getting a bunch of Fae inspired items, that I was excited about. My plan was to queue up the update while I went off to check on a friend’s home and get a few things at a store that is near her house.
I visited Billings Bridge after taking care of things at my friend’s place. It is not as good as it used to be. I was partly going to check things out at The Natural Food Pantry, but even that is a shell of its former self. They used to carry more variety and had better prices. They don’t even have nearly as much in the supplements section. L-Glutamine is an important thing they are missing now. What’s that for? Well, it’s an integral part of gut health. At least that’s available at supplement stores, but it’s odd to carry probiotics and not L-Glutamine as the two are often used together to repair the gut after exercise or health issues like Celiac Disease and Candida Overgrowth. I’m liking my area of town a bit more now.
On Thursday, I had some time to get some of my floor grouting done despite not feeling the best. I was fairly sure I didn’t have enough to do the whole area I needed to do. I was running out of steam anyway and it left me a way to walk through the kitchen with this one area left for another day. I prefer to look on the bright side when possible. Sometimes it requires digging really deep.

I feel the need to reiterate that I actually abhor home renovation. Unfortunately, it’s more expensive for someone else to do it and there is no guarantee it will be done better than I can do it myself. Perhaps faster, but paying more to almost certainly have to redo things far sooner than I would otherwise is just not attractive to me.
Speaking of digging, there is a major construction project happening very near our parking lot. Where the local food bank once was is where a new condo building is being built. And where our snow is usually stored, will be the parking for that building. Yeah, we think it’s not the smartest plan, but I guess we have no say in the matter. And I guess we’ll be paying more for snow removal in the future. I don’t know how many stories it will be, but I think the Food Cupboard is supposed to be on the ground floor. A lot of what I’ve heard may be rumours.

I’ve felt frustrated currently as I’m in a liminal state where I’m wanting to finish some things and be onto the things that are coming. With the ear infection, I haven’t have all the energy I want and need to finish the things. I’ll soon be able to talk about this all more freely. Next week, in fact. For now, just know that I have many things on my mind and too much on a todo list I want to be done with, so I can get to the things I am looking forward to instead. It’s been a long road.
On Saturday, I rewatched the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie because July 31st was its anniversary date. It’s 34 years old now. I may start a Buffy series rewatch in September only breaking for Hackers Day and the other things I will be needing to tend to come then.
Part of Sunday was spent on cleaning remaining grout residue from my floor. After that, I mostly planned for the future and relaxed with some World of Warcraft Classic edition and Bones. My undead warlock is level 40 now. I’m working on getting my skinning up to the level it should be, so I can collect leather as I level. I need to get to level 60 to be able to fly. I already have the mount for that.
To summarize, this week was more self-care than anything else. I’m frustrated about it, but sometimes one has to just accept what is and adapt.
Catch you on the flip side,
Rae
